A Glimpse at the Oil Industry
Oil and Gas drilling is one of the major industries around the world today. This is because the world has an infinite demand for fuel to power the engines of automobiles, airplanes and ships. Because humans give so much value to oil, it is also considered as black gold. Also, like stocks, the value of oil fluctuates in the world market on a regular basis based on many factors.
Though the oil industry promises high returns to investors and exploration companies, it is not something anyone can just enter. This is because it requires huge amount of capital, geological expertise and compliance to regulations set by law. The main concern of investors is to locate a place where the can extract oil. On the other hand, the concern of governments is usually the impact of drilling the oil to the environment. This is usually the major challenge for oil exploration and drilling companies.
Oil can be extracted on both directly under solid ground or under the seabed. Offshore Drilling is the term used when oil is being extracted from a seabed. This type of oil drilling usually presents more challenges as compared to drilling directly on land. This is because it is more difficult and expensive to transport the necessary equipment in the middle of the sea needed for offshore drilling. Also, it presents more environmental risks to the marine ecosystem.
The demand for oil is still steadily increasing and it is showing no signs of dropping any time soon. To be able to meet this overwhelming demand for oil, oil companies need to constantly explore for more possible sources of oil.
